Cosmogony

ole ASTROSOPHY, this word alone can define in a general manner the nature of the science that it expresses.

ole Though Astrosophy is neither Astrology nor Astronomy, it still bears a close relation to both. Astronomy serves as its foundation and Astrology as a stepping stone to its introduction into the occidental world.

ole Astrosophy is the science by which Man acquires the knowledge of the Sensorial and Sensible Laws of the Universe. Yet it corresponds to Astronomy since the latter is concerned with the research and knowledge of the Laws of Harmony, also called Mechanical Laws of the created Universe.

ole The Laws of Harmony are: the law of attraction and repulsion, the law of gravity, moment of rotation towards the centre, the law of weight and lastly, the laws of time, of space, etc. etc.

ole The Laws of Harmony are subject to a fixed periodicity and alternation. This is why the study and foreknowledge of the phenomena produced by them are subject to mathematical research and solution.

ole The Sensorial Laws are all the laws that contribute to the production of forms, sounds, colours and in general all those laws whose effects we and all other creatures are aware of through the senses.

ole The Sensible Laws are all those laws which, by conditional periodicity, maintain the manifestations that have some conscience in Creation such as the law of the conservation of races, the law of memory in Nature, the law 'Man', as also the mental and psychical laws of creatures in the Universe, etc.

ole The Mental laws are the laws of harmony of the ideas of the Universe. The psychical laws are the laws of universal emotivity or Pathos.

ole All the Laws of Harmony, called 'mechanical laws', in a common or a separate action within the created Universe, produce different conditions on Matter, such as warmth, cold, light, darkness, dryness. In a common action, they produce the seasons, conserve the life of beings, etc. The solar hearth is an agent of the laws that produce warmth or dryness. Our satellite, the moon, is also an agent by means of which certain laws act upon the liquids (humid fluids) of the Earth.

ole The sun acts upon and affects the Earth by a circular or cyclic radiation since, by its self-rotation, it sends its luminous and warm rays by means of the centrifugal force that is due to its motion.

The moon acts upon and affects the Earth by a direct radiation of its centrifugal force, emitted by its course or its rotation round the Earth.

ole We have spoken about Astrosophy about laws and their nature. I also think it useful to speak a little about the Syntheses prior to these sciences and even prior to these laws.

ole The Orphic tradition considers Creation as the effect of a first synthesis, which associated two qualities of one and the same principle in a common activity.

ole Prior to everything, the Being existed in Itself and in negation of Time and Space, which could not exist without the concurrence of the Non-Being.

ole Potentially the Being has two virtues: Pathos and Tropos. Pathos is the virtue of emotivity, manifested by movement. Tropos is the virtue of activity, also manifested by movement.

ole The movement of Tropos is a penetrating one whereas that of Pathos is an enveloping one. The association of these two movements and their mutual action produced the Synthesis called Creation. By its virtue of penetration, Tropos created Space. Responding to the effect of the penetrating movement of Tropos, Pathos created Time, since the penetrability of Tropos was fixed (made stable) by the envelopment in duration of Pathos. By mutual concurrence and without any lapse or stop in their state, Space and Time produce Form. This ternary forms the second Synthesis of Creation, called Substance.

ole Substance becomes a Creation-Principle because it separates itself from the Being, which is Essence and, by an effect of multiplication of its potential in synthetic movement, it becomes an entity and opposes itself to Essence, from which it emanated.

{Note - In Creation, it is well known that every given impulse, by repercussion in space, is weakened in penetration due to the resistance of Matter, and is transformed into an enveloping movement (apparent stability). Thus every secondary movement within a synthesis tends to destroy or alter the synthesis. Thus, by reaction on principle, the synthesis stifles this secondary movement by altering it. The objection to this, presented by the movement of the pendulum, is at first sight correct but in reality the apparent movement that is in potential of penetration is transformed into an enveloping movement at the points of resistance of Matter.}

 

ole Once this synthesis is complete, Creation becomes objective to the Being and, by Resistance, in opposition to It and to Its activity.

ole This Synthesis is called the Luciferian Creation.

ole {Note - This synthesis is called Luciferian Creation because as soon as it was formed, it separated itself from the Being by opposing itself to Its activity. Thus, from the primordial Unity of the Being, duality or the binary was born. A legend, revealed by O ole Vole M. Dea, gives the interpretation of the events of the first syntheses of Creation:

ole Eon or the Being, the Unity of the All acting in ltself through Its own attributes, was in Potentiality in all eternity.
The first attributes of Eon were two: the Word or Tropos, and the Spirit or Pathos (Eros). Together with the Being, these two attributes constituted an absolute ternary: Conscience, Wisdom and Love.

ole Other attributes of Eon were noted in this potential activity, among which Nous, Voulos, Romos, Noimon, Logos, Mimitis and Thymos. Each of these attributes alone was unconscious, but when reunited by their Eonian Generator - whether Tropicos or Pathoticos - they reacquired conscience and lived as Eon in potentiality, by the constant exchange of their virtues. The Generators were types of Eonian attributes corresponding to Tropos and Pathos in common activity. Legend notes three groups of Generators: 1st group Deon-Dea, 2nd group Reon-Rea, 3rd group Feon-Fea.

(Note to Note - Just as all other legends, this too is anthropomorphic. We shall be speaking of all these divine Eonian attributes as if they were individuals different from the Unity and separated from the Unity or Eon, but the reader should interpret the allegory by depersonalising the beings mentioned.)

ole In fact, there were more than three groups of Generators but the Legend retains the memory of these three as the ones that more particularly interest those living on this Earth.

ole The Giants, sons of the Generators and unconscious Eonian attributes, acted potentially in the mode of the Unity-Eon.

ole "Brothers, have you seen the new manner of Eon's activity by Tropos and Pathos? Have you understood that by this activity a Synthesis has separated itself from our Unity in order to follow a different destiny? Have you felt that there is a revolt concealed in this separation, a revolt for which a feeling of pain injures our Unity? So, Brothers, let us act in such a way as to neutralize the revolt of separation by penetrating into this new Synthesis, by conforming to the new manner of activity and by bringing it back into our Unity."
 

ole "Oh Thymos," Nous replied, "don't you think that what you suggest fosters another revolt in our Unity of Eon? Don't you think that by conforming to the new manner of activity, we risk dissociation from our primordial activity? No, Thymos, let us remain as One; this is our Eternity in Eon.""

 

ole "Indeed," answered Noimon, "it is true that Tropos and Pathos have created a separation in Eon. Still, at that very moment Eon filled the void and Its Unity is guaranteed by all the attributes of Eon grouped around It. Why then follow the initiative of Thymos, one that is contrary to the Unity of Eon?"

ole "This initiative, brother Noimon, will be of service to both Eon and our Unity for we shall conquer the First Synthesis and bring back to it the law of Eternity. And this will benefit both Eon and our Unity."

ole Then Mimitis spoke and said, "This new manner of activity frightens me and in spite of our wish to maintain our Unity, I fear we shall be separated.""

ole "Do not fear, Mimitis," replied Thymos, "no manner, no activity whatever could alter our attachment to the Unity. On the contrary, our gesture will provide the harmony that was banished by Lucifer's separation and we shall reign as Masters in this new domain, united to Eon, the Eternal."

ole Then Romos spoke and said: "Thymos is right; to fight the one who conceived separation is to do a work of unity."

ole Then Thymos redoubled his eloquence and affirmation and ended by getting his way. This unitary activity was the preparation of a second separation from the Unity - one assuredly known to the Being.

ole Their fate was similar to that of Tropos and Pathos (Lucifer) and these attributes of Eon, likening their manner of activity to that of Lucifer, were completely absorbed and separated from their Unity.} (End of Note).

 

ole This, in brief, is what the legends of the Orphic and Pythagorean Schools say. We have cited them so as to complete what there is to say on the subject of Cosmogony.

ole Let us leave the abstract plane and come to the concrete one and let us try to transform the legend by interpreting it as far as possible in a physical and material way.

ole The nature of all force, all dynamism, whether conscious or unconscious, is MOVEMENT.

ole In all eternity, movement was the All - movement without stop or interruption. Conscience lay in movement, or Conscience Itself was movement. Movement was the Life of the All and the All was the unique personality of Movement. (Today, we call this Movement: Dynamism, Force, Supreme Power, Universal Conscience, God, etc.)

ole Now an event took place (certainly willed) that decided the creation of the Cosmos. By an effort of supreme convulsion, which created Pain, Tropos interrupted its Movement, and Pathos felt an immense Pleasure in sheathing Tropos, for the movement of Pathos was an enveloping one at the point where Tropos interrupted its movement.

ole This double fact produced what we today call Matter. Matter was created with Pain and Pleasure as its two initial sensations.

ole Therefore Matter is a kind of Dynamic Knot in which the force of the Penetrating and the Enveloping movement has been transformed into a Resisting and a Compressing movement. Resistance gave birth to the sensation of Pleasure and Compression to that of Pain. Besides, these two sensations accompanied Creation in its evolution by being manifest alternately.

ole Substance is therefore the PLACE, and its negation is SPACE. Substance is also the MOMENT or INSTANT, and its negation is TIME.

ole From the Centre of the All - where Tropos emanated and accomplished the work called Creation - to the Infinity of Spaces, the force of Penetration continued its activity. The further it gets from the Centre of its emanation the greater the movement of Resistance seems to it to become, and the stronger the movement of Compression.

ole The movement of Resistance created a first reality - DENSITY. The movement of Compression created a second reality - HEAVINESS.

ole At the moment and at the places where the movements of Resistance and of Compression become superior, there takes place a fact that brought about the Causes of the secondary Creation. In the presence of the increasing efforts of Resistance and Compression, Penetration is transformed into a deflagrating (igniting) force. (This is to say that, under the influence of Resistance and Compression, the movement of Penetration is accentuated by assimilation and, though retaining its penetrating nature, it is multiplied into diverse directions and what it loses in length it gains in capacity.) This deflagration takes place within the movements of Resistance and Compression and its objective is to bring back a dynamic balance between the different conflicting movements. This balance is obtained by assimilation.

ole This deflagration creates a new state in Substance, a third reality that we call IGNEOUS (fiery) Nature.

ole It is to Igneous Nature, to the creation of this third reality, that we owe the present modalities of our Creation.

ole Igneous Nature is the force that 'fixes' states in Creation. This is to say that, by acting in itself, Igneous Nature decomposes into different movements and blends in them. When acting in Substance, Igneous Nature has the power to fix the form of Substance in the state of density in which it influenced Substance. This is so because it allows these bodies or Substances to absorb it, and when in them, it fixes them and renders them variable only under certain conditions that are useful to the harmony of the whole. The gift of the regenerator of cosmic Substance is also attributed to Igneous Nature.

ole Lastly, Igneous Nature is considered to be the mother of created Matter. Our Mens is in ecstasy when contemplating its various and multiple modalities.

ole The further the movement of penetration got from the Centre, the more the dense forms of Substance multiplied, and the greater the movement of Compression. It was there that, as the great Substantial agglomerations were gradually constituted, deflagration took place so as to allow the other great Substantial agglomerations -produced all round the deflagrating one - to become fixed in their Substantial states by the influence of Igneous Nature, which was immediately close to them.

ole Thus the worlds were formed. At the extremities of the Centre, they were very dense, getting more rarefied in the median spaces. Substance toward the Centre is not subject to the law of Igneous Nature, for the movements of Penetration and Envelopment are superior to those of Resistance and Compression and there is no movement of deflagration.

 

Conclusions

ole From the above, the following definitions and laws can be derived:

1) The principal character of Essence - translated by various ideas, the noblest of which are: God, Supreme Being, Universal Conscience, and the inferior are: Universal Force, Infinite Force etc. - is MOVEMENT.

2) In Essence the movements are two: Movement of PENETRATlON and Movement of ENVELOPMENT.

3) The creation of Substance is due to a certain manner of activity: interruption of the first Movement and envelopment of the point of this interruption by the Enveloping Movement.

4) Together with the first Substantial Creation, two sensations are created: PAIN in the act of interruption, and PLEASURE in the act of envelopment.

5) The movements in Substance are two: movement of RESISTANCE and the movement of COMPRESSION.

6) Substance is delimited by two affirmations, which are PLACE, and MOMENT or INSTANT, and by two negations, which are SPACE and TIME.

7) Two realities followed the two sensations - DENSITY, the reality issuing from the movement of Resistance, and HEAVINESS, the reality issued from the movement of Compression.

8) The further the Penetrating movement gets from the Centre of its emanation, the weaker it becomes by degenerating, whereas the movement of Resistance gets from the same Centre as that Penetrating movement, the stronger it becomes. The same is almost true of the Enveloping movement and that of Compression.

Faced with the ever-growing efforts of Resistance and Compression, Penetration is transformed into a Deflagrating Force.

9) Deflagration takes place within the movements of Resistance and Compression with the purpose of breaking a balance in order create another.

10) This deflagration creates a first state, which is particular to Substance, that of Igneous Nature. This is a third reality.

11) Igneous Nature is a fixative force; it conserves the state and modalities of Substance.

12) Igneous Nature is considered to be the Philosopher's Stone of Creation. it is the mother of the Matter that we know. Our Mens is in ecstasy before its various and multiple forms.

13) The further the Penetrating movement gets from the Centre, the more multiple do the dense forms of Substance become.

14) It was at the place where Matter was multiplied that the Worlds were formed by the deflagration of numerous centres of material density, which formed the nucleus of the Second Creation.

15) The Worlds were formed dense at the extremities of the Centre and less Centre dense in the median space.

16) Substance in the immediate proximity of the Centre is not subject to the laws of Igneous Nature, for the movements of Penetration and Envelopment are superior to those of Resistance and Compression.
